Turbo Dynamics
Case Study

With over 30 years of experience, Turbo Dynamics are the experts in turbocharging, serving both the trade and retail markets in the UK, Europe and countries all around the world.

Who are Turbo Dynamics

Born from founder and Managing Director Peter Marsh in 1991, Turbo Dynamics (TD) are an independent, award-winning family-owned business based on the south coast of England. Growing up around race cars with a father who raced in Formula 1, at Le Mans and holding an astonishing record of six-time British Hill climb Champion, it was unsurprising that Peter had petrol in his veins. His ongoing passion led to work in the turbocharger industry with leaders in automotive engineering, designing high performance hybrid turbos for Cosworth in the late 1980s.

TD have always stood by their motto ‘Quality Without Compromise’. It’s with this dependable approach that their onsite specialists have been professionally trained to the highest of standards. Catering to niche customer requirements with great expertise, bespoke builds are a daily practice.

Unlike competitors who commonly outsource some of their services, TD design and manufacture turbos, parts and performance accessories all in-house. Additionally being distributors for some of the leading brand names in this field, Master Distributor and Performance Distributor for Garrett, there are a variety of options available for all well-known cars.

Turbo Dynamics Manual Job Contract Process

TD uses the Job Costing module within their Advanced Exchequer ERP system, to manage jobs going through the factory workflow, and to provide both statistical and financial reporting. This covers both internal jobs when building products for stock, as well as customer jobs for repair and warranty returns. Particularly in instances of repair/service or a performance upgrade, when a new customer was created in Exchequer, TD’s process was to create the required Job Contracts (folder hierarchy) ready for a customer’s job creation. This was a fiddly and time-consuming exercise in Exchequer in dire need of streamlining. Over the years these have been laboriously created Ad Hoc when needed, and therefore a customer may or may not have the Job Contracts (folders) already in place.

Exchequer Dynamics were employed to review the existing structure and to fully automate the process.

Job Contracts subsequently needed to be checked, and if not already in place, they had to be created. The contents of the Job Contracts weren’t necessarily consistent. While some customers had some folders created, others had all or none at all prior to review. The Job Contracts were also inconsistent in their contents due to commonplace human error or discrepancies between staff, some having all uppercase names and descriptions while others had proper case. As User Defined Fields have been added and default contents changed over years of evolving Exchequer use, this meant the full list needed to be brought up to date. This process is very lengthy to achieve manually, with the certainty that it would need to be repeated again in the future.

Automated Job Contract Creation

Exchequer Dynamics were tasked to automate these processes. Once scoped out with the customer, we broke this down into 3 distinct parts:

    • Tidy up the current list of Job Contracts to create any missing contracts, and change all cases and defaults to match current requirements.
    • Add a DLL that is connected to the Save hook of the customer process (Create or Edit) to check what Job Contracts currently exist, and add any missing details.
    • Add a process to the TD website to create Job Contracts when a new Customer is inserted into Exchequer via the e-commerce integration, ready for the web order to be created. Depending on the default or customer preferences, this can either be a Sales Quotation (SQU) or a Sales Order (SOR).

We delivered:

    • A utility to fulfil the Job Contracts data cleansing.
    • A DLL plugin for Exchequer.
    • The added functionality to the e-commerce integration as part of our ExFusion platform run by TD.

This latest integration improvement is saving us hours of administration time, a particularly frustrating and long task to perform within Exchequer and all staff involved in that previous manual process are very happy. The ROI on this integration will be very short!”.
